Auvrynon City, The Albatross Inn
The Albatross Inn
Located near the wharf in Traders Square, The Albatross Inn offers drink, food and boarding to the weary. Owned by a mysterious woman known only as Feather, The Inn is the only round building in the City of Gates. Constructed of limestone, the pale interior walls and cherry-wood floor glow faintly, dispelling all shadows that tend to attract those in need of a dim atmosphere. Though the façade is simple, make no mistake, this Inn is guarded by strong enchantments. It has withstood the ages gracefully.
It is a favorite among the residents of Auvrynon, and is carefully watched from the inside out. Once one steps through the front door, he or she enters a grand dining hall. To the left is a barroom that is supplied with all manner of libations imported from lands beyond the storm. The kitchen is stocked with all grains of bread, exotic cheeses, and mouth-watering seafood fresh from the docks each morning. Desserts include cakes and pie, chocolates and fruit. Each table is clean, with unseen servants that come and evacuate dirty plates and cups when the previous diner has left. The warm glow about the room keeps it comforting, inviting all guests to indulge in the delicacies within.
Many guests come to discuss business over a meal or to relax with a date without fear of threat or argument. Disagreements tend to happen, but if anything escalates beyond a heated debate, those involved are asked to leave. If they do not listen to the staff and refuse to exit on their own accord, they will be promptly ejected from the structure.
Anyone attacking another person, with fist, weapon or spell, will immediately find themselves outside of the Albatross, unable to return.
Undead have been completely forbidden entrance into the Albatross. The powerful magic was set into place when the building was constructed and is seeped into the foundation. Those who live in darkness will find this atmosphere uncomfortable as there are no shadows to hide in and no gloom to use as shade from the enchanting light of the room. Bloodwyne is never on the menu. Vampires and their kin even attempting to enter will find themselves quickly devoured by the light and their bodies dissolved by it.
The Albatross is more than just a dining hall. The upper floors are filled with chambers that are simple in nature and fit for a variety of needs. A large common room makes up the majority of the second floor, usable for large gatherings during the day then furnished with cots each night for travelers with limited coin to spend. The top floor houses private rooms, most of which are supplied with four small single beds. The décor of these rooms is muted, with cream embroidery laced through blue linen. In addition, several rooms are actually larger suites with a overstuffed feather bed fit for a king. These suites have a private cleaning chamber with a large wash basin and writing desk as furnishings. Prices of the rooms vary and if one is willing to pay an extra price, a personal maid can be employed. Regardless of the room, either rented for copper or gold, the bedding is kept clean and the curtains opened each morning to bring in the natural light that washes across the city.
Feather keeps a tight reign over The Albatross Inn, which has been regarded highly by all who come to drink and celebrate within the walls.
