07. After the Party by Thayne

Thayne’s morning came at slow degrees, first he realized how thirsty he was and then he noticed the never-ending pounding in his head. He thought some bird was hammering away outside his bedroom window, but when he rolled over and put a pillow over his head, which seemed to only make the sound worse, he realized it was all in his head.

He rolled back over and snuggled up behind his wife. He nudged his nose into her fragrant hair. He could feel that it was still in some sort of mostly intact arrangement from the night before. She had spent hours fixing the unruly golden curls, now strands were out of place and playing about wildly, a reminder to what they had done after Alexander’s party.

Come to think of it, what all had they done? His head hurt and his body did too… in several strange places. As he twisted his neck, his shoulder hit the pillow, causing a bolt of pain to rush down his side. Reluctantly, he opened his eyes and noticed his shoulder had been scraped raw, as were his hands and fingertips. Revelation of the wounds brought images of last night back in a hazy flood.

He laughed… the things they did when they were drunk.

Pashen had consumed twice as much as he did, and she was still snoozing on her side as she had been placed there hours ago. She must not have moved all night long.

Thayne turned his head, hearing the sounds of the children playing in the living room. He guessed by the angle of light that came in through the window is was around noon. No wonder his bladder was screaming at him to wake up.

Despite this, he curled up with his wife and kissed her ear, “’Quel andune, A’mael.” *

She moaned softly, hinting that she would much rather be left alone right now while her body adjusted to being awake once more.

He grinned and kissed her again, “Cuiv lle. Lle anta yulna en alu?”**

She spooned backwards into his warmth, moaning again that she didn’t want to wake up and she really didn’t want to put anything into her stomach right now.

He could wait a few more minutes. Holding her like this in a quiet lazy afternoon was one of the rare treats that he had been missing as of late. Normally, one or the other of them was awake at dawn, either tending to the children or some inner demons. Pashen had the ceremony she was constantly working on as well, which would take her away from him for a night or two.

Pashen rolled over in his arms and her eyelids parted, barely. Despite her hangover, she looked stunning; like a woman who had been thoroughly made love to. He grinned and brushed some of the golden curls out of her face. Her voice was soft, “Do you know how much I ….” Suddenly, a rainbow hued light surrounded her whole body. With a whoosh of air, she was gone from his arms and his bed.

He would have been alarmed if this had not have happened numerous times before. Sighing and giving into the loss, he collapsed back on the bed, eyes trained upward at the ceiling. He heard a crash from the living room, followed by a cry from Cory and Jexi yelling something along the lines of, “Quiet!!”

It was going to be a long day.
