Beggars, guides and leather merchants are common professions. Water is a precious commodity, a large pool of fresh water is located in the center of town, and all citizens are given access to it. Celebrations sometimes randomly pop up on the dusty streets, either because the people celebrate their lives each day, or because they know that a drunk adventurer can be more easily separated from his or her silver.

Notable Inhabitants: The Governor of Lilt’Monk is an elected position, elections happen every 8 years. The position gives complete control over the city and the city militia. The Governor is charged with protecting the city as well as seeing that the people have food for their families. The current Governor Pickney Grungfind is a ginger dwarf who will not hesitate to cut down any wild tribes that try to take over ‘his town’.
History

Much of what happened in the canyon has been lost to time. What is known is that the city of Lilt’Monk was built about 200 years ago on the top edge of the canyon.

What has been discovered since that time has come back only as rumors from those who survived and returned from trips into the canyon. Those that can see the energy of the fyres have reported back that there are dense pools of earthfyre deep in the canyon, the intensity that would rival volcanoes. There is also an ancient city, a week’s hard ride deep in the base of the canyon, with magical energies surrounding it that suggest that the people that lived in the city made great sacrifices to try and control the earthfyre, and potentially lost that control. Broken runes and cursed artifacts are all that remain. It is believed that the same catastrophic event that destroyed the city is responsible for the ribbon of power that weaves its way through the canyon today.

200 years ago a group of dwarves and drow came together to create the Gateway. Their contribution to the Canyon has allowed the city of Lilt’Monk (A name that is a combination of their house names) to build up and thrive.
